DESIGN STORY: BTS,Korean & Victorian Fashion
A young Arts student who wants her fashion to be as inspired as her art.. Shalini.In her words, "I always wanted to get better understanding of fashion. It took me a while to start finding my own style. I always liked the Victorian & Lolita style since I am interested in history of Victorian era and Anime. I am also interested in Korean Fashion since out of all the mordern style that I like, I personally think Korean fashion is the most fashionable one. I get inspired by Park Jimin and Kim Taehyung, both of them are from K-Pop group called BTS, They are very fashionable inspire me to have similar ideas with a cute side. Jimin, Tae are the lead singers in BTS. Their styles are very chic and gender nuetral. The long Blazer overcoat is a great way of bringing the formal vibe in the casual wear. A Blazer dress is conceptualized that is loosely fitted and can be worn with leggings or trousers. The oversized jumper with turtle neck top is a great fashion statemement that is understated and elegant. The yellow white and black checked shirt with the leather jacked is a timeless style statement and always stands out as youthful, fresh and biker-style.
The Victorian age fashion can be translated into mordern fashion with the different elements that can be integrated in the mordern wardrobe. Long Maxi dresses and skirts with blouses with puffed sleeves. Corset tops with lace details and skirts with high tied skirts in white and wine red are vintage with a mordern twist. Bringing the Victoria and Lolita to the 21st Century and beyond.
Howl's moving castle, the story is set in a fictional kingdom where both magic and early 20th-century technology are prevalent, against the backdrop of a war with another kingdom. The film tells the story of a young, content milliner named Sophie who is turned into an old woman by a witch who enters her shop and curses her. She encounters a wizard named Howl and gets caught up in his resistance to fighting for the king. Sophie is simple, sophisticated girl who doesn't believe she is beautiful till Howl makes her realize. Apart from the classical green dress, with hat, long boots, for the mordern look the inspiration can be a T-Shirt with painted Sophie and Howl or a dress with the Howl's moving castle.
Heo Hwan is a rising star is Royal College of Art graduate Hwan Heo, the designer behind London-based label Heohwan Simulation.Established in 2010, Heo looks to fashion history and his own artwork for inspiration, reinterpreting classic silhouettes with his eye for deconstructed angles. Heowahan Simulation’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection was shown as part of Vauxhall Fashion Scout’s off-schedule programme at London Fashion Week last September, and impressed with a contemporary aesthetic that combines feminine elegance with structural modernism.
MeJiwoo (real name Jung Ji Woo) is well-known among fans as BTS member j-hope's older sister. Mejiwoo is a famous influencer and trendsetter. Now, through her partnership with KVLY, MeJiwoo will be active as the head creative director of the upcoming fashion brand 'AJ LOOK' - a brand representing real, trendy styles as popularized by influencers and trendsetters. Her style is casual, chic and youthful.
Inspired by the Korean fashion, BTS, Howl's moving castle, Victorian style and HeoHwan, Shalini embraces her chic side.
